Speaker

Franka Bosnjak is a social worker with qualifications and work experience from both Australia and overseas. Her work with refugee children in school settings was the starting point which determined her future work with refugees. Her counselling work at STARTTS began when she joined the STARTTS Safe Haven counselling team in Singleton providing support to the Kosovars evacuated to Australia in 1999. This was an extraordinary experience and she has been working with clients from different age groups and culturally diverse backgrounds at STARTTS ever since. Franka’s professional development includes skills gained from working with aged refugees which has given her a profound understanding of their special needs. She currently provides counselling to elderly clients through individual and group interventions which is important to support aged refugees in the recovery process. Franka is a Team Leader of a General Services team at STARTTS and in addition to her work with individual clients, she also coordinates community development projects and provides professional training to service providers and clinical supervision to STARTTS’ clinicians.
