Dr George Foster is a Psychiatrist with extensive experience in both public and private practice. He has a Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery and a Postgraduate Diploma of Psychological Medicine. In 1986 he obtained a Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Fellowship. From 1985 until his retirement in 2009 he worked as a consultant Psychiatrist in private practice in the southern suburbs of Sydney with an interest in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Dr Foster is currently studying a Master of Arts in Holocaust and his thesis topic is to develop a perpetrator profile which will give some indication of the individual and group factors which lead to genocidal mass murder. Dr Foster has been involved in community activities and organisations for over thirty five years. These include having been the president of the Southern Sydney Synagogue, vice president of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, chair of the Holocaust Remembrance Committee, president of the Australian Association of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Descendants, and being on the board of the Sydney Jewish Museum. Dr Foster has a profound understanding of the psychological difficulties faced by Holocaust survivors and their children, including problems they and their families experience as they age.
