Professor José M. Olivares is Senior Consultant at the Department of Psychiatry, Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Vigo [CHUVI], Spain. He graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, attained his PhD in psychiatry at the University of Oviedo, Spain, and completed his training as a specialist in psychiatry in Vigo and at the University of Cambridge, UK. His main teaching and research interests lie in the neurobiological, psychopharmacological, psychopathological and conceptual aspects of psychoses, particularly in the field of negative, cognitive and affective symptoms of schizophrenia, the search for neurobiological markers in psychoses and affective disorders, as well as several methodological aspects of research in psychiatry. He is Invited Professor of the University of Antioquia (Colombia) and Professor of the Master of Neurosciences at the Universities of Santiago de Compostela, Vigo and La Coruna (Spain), Vice President of the Biomedical Foundation of CHUVI and the Organiser of the National Courses in Psychiatry Research, which have been held annually in Vigo since 1997. He is the founder and Director of the Galician Journal of Psychiatry and Neurosciences and is a member of the editorial board and a reviewer for several national and international psychiatric journals. He has published a number of articles relating to his main research interests in peer-reviewed journals and books.
