Associate Professor Karen Zwi is Consultant Community Paediatrician at Sydney Children’s Hospital (SCH), Head of the Department of Community Child Health, and Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales. She is the Clinical Director for Priority Populations at SCHN (which encompasses Sydney Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital at Westmead). She has been centrally involved in service development for refugee and Aboriginal children in South Eastern Sydney and the Illawarra and has recently completed a study of the wellbeing of refugee children over the first 2-3 years of settlement in Australia. Dr Zwi is the Chairperson RACP Refugee Child Health Policy Group, Member of the Australian Alliance for Children and Youth ARC Research Network, Future Generation: New Knowledge for Better Outcomes for Children and Young People and Member of South Eastern Sydney Area Health Service Refugee Health Co-ordination Committee. Her role on the NSW Refugee Health Implementation Group facilitates the implementation of the NSW Refugee Health Plan and ensures services developed in NSW are evidence based. As Chairperson of the RACP Health of Asylum Seekers and Refugees Working Party, RACP representative on the 2014 Australian Human Rights Commission National Inquiry into Children in Immigration Detention and on the Detention and Immigration Health Advisory Groups to the Federal Government, Dr Zwi -over the last decade- has made a substantial contribution to the national and international agenda on refugee and asylum seeker health and wellbeing. Over the last five years she published 35 peer reviewed journal articles, 1 book chapter, and she has been the Editorial Board Member for the journal Child: Care, Health and Development.
