Kat Mikhailouskaya has worked as a counsellor for the NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors (STARTTS) since 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and a Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Psychotherapy (WSU). Prior to her work at STARTTS, Kat worked as a counsellor at a Women’s Health Centre assisting women affected by Domestic Violence where she began her journey as a trauma informed practitioner. She works primarily with adults, however also works with children and young people. Kate is passionate about working with complex trauma and trauma-related disorders, and Psychodynamic and Existential Psychotherapy inform her therapeutic approach. Kate also places a strong focus on the client’s strengths, aiming to empower clients with strong tools to cope with maladaptive consequences of trauma. Kat regularly provides trainings for organisations about working more effectively with people who have been exposed to torture and other types of traumatic events in the context of war and organised violence and are living in Australia.
