Prof. Philip Boyce

Philip Boyce is Professor of Psychiatry at Westmead Hospital and Head of the Perinatal Psychiatry Clinical Research Unit at Westmead Hospital. He trained in medicine at Guy’s Hospital in London. He started psychiatry training in London and then moved to Australia where he completed his psychiatry training. He trained in psychotherapy in Adelaide and then returned to Sydney to work at Mood disorders Unit at Prince Henry. He completed his MD on the association between personality and non-melancholic depression. He then was appointed as the foundation chair in Psychiatry at the Nepean Hospital before moving to his current position at Westmead Hospital where he is head of the Perinatal Psychiatry service. He was President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists from 2003 to 2005. He has had a long standing clinical and research interest in perinatal mental health and mood disorders and a long involvement with the Marce society. He helped establish the Australasian Branch and was President of the Society from 2001-2003. His current research focus is the impact of psychotic disorders on women in pregnancy and postpartum and predictors of bipolar relapse following childbirth.
