Speaker

Sophie Piron has been working as Practice Manager at Adelaide City General Practice since 2010. The practice is passionate about social justice and Sophie's role as manager is to ensure a viable, profitable business whilst providing general practices services to a wide patient demographic including refugees and asylum seekers, people with disabilities and people who are homeless. As manager, Sophie has successfully encouraged practice engagement with non-government organisations, involvement in a range of pilot projects and clinical trials and has been successful in applying for a number of special project grants. Sophie's training as a Speech Pathologist, and her early work with people with severe multiple disabilities has resulted in her putting effective and positive communication as one of her highest priorities in her interactions with others. As a non-English speaking migrant to Australia at the age of 8 she has a keen understanding and empathy for her practice's many new arrival patients as they seek to learn the language. Sophie holds a Master of Business Administration which has provided her with a broad range of skills, which she draws upon daily for the efficient management of all matters relevant to the business operations of the practice.
