Acculturation has actually become a dominant framework used to explain disparities among minority groups. A/Prof Renzaho will show how social exclusion and alienation impact on the physical and socio-psychological health of people from refugee backgrounds and, how families, communities and service providers can respond to these challenges.
Drawing on a study about parenting styles among migrants and refugee communities living in Melbourne, A/Prof Renzaho will demonstrate how programs seeking to improve the health and welfare of refugees, need to accommodate the cultural and social dimensions that shape their lives in order to assist them address intergenerational issues.
