The Collapse of the soviet system caused prolonged political, economical and psychosocial difficulties for the society. On one hand, collapse of totalitarian regime gives opportunity for change and for building open society, but on the other hand it is serious traumatizing risk factor for the society. This presentation describes : stress factors in post soviet period 1989-2011 ( April 9, civil conflict, ethno conflict, rose revolution, November 7, 2007, August war 2008, June 15, 2009, May 26, 2011), which have had an effect on Georgian state’s political, social economic development and society’s mental health. At the same time author will discuss the steps taken in the field of human rights in Georgia, such as joining international documentation and changes in local legislation.
In recent years, experience and researches in the field of traumatology, shows that massive traumatizing event is reflected on the individual as well as on the social level, which means that society, as one whole organism, acquires certain features and overcoming strategies typical for traumatized individuals. In order to clarify this phenomenon the presentation will discuss comparative analysis of individual and societal trauma, based on the case of rehabilitation work, conducted with the people affected during the raid of peaceful demonstration on November 7, 2007.
