The Georgian Centre for Psychosocial and Medical Rehabilitation of Torture Victims was established in 2000. Since then the organization is providing psychological, medical, legal and social assistance to victims of torture, inhuman treatment and their family members as well as other traumatized groups in Georgia. GCRT works with Internally Displaced Persons, Refugees, war affected populations, family members of missing persons in the center’s facilities and through community outreach; as well as with adult and juvenile prisoners in various prisons in Georgia.
The results of this decade of work will be analyzed and conclusions drawn. Culturally sensitive interventions described, as well as challenges of working in the context where state is often the source of human rights violation, which causes further traumatization on individual and communal levels, will be reflected upon.
