As I sit down to begin writing this paper, feelings and thoughts swirl. The emphasis of Conversational Model psychotherapy training is upon affect; and so, I hope to present something of my own internal experience and transformation that has occurred as I’ve progressed through the University of Sydney, Westmead Psychotherapy Program. It is a qualitative study, incorporating my professional experience; phenomenology, and existential themes are explored. The CM is relational, and the training is too; as is my approach to this treatise. A rich literature review of scholarly articles on relational psychoanalysis, the CM, as well as the process of becoming a psychotherapist provide a framework from which to develop. Further, I will discuss the feedback loop of individual and group supervision, my experience of the patients as case studies will be included, and my own psychotherapy will be acknowledged. This treatise is a personal insight, a deep reflection and a lived experience of psychotherapy training.
