An independent samples t-test revealed the two groups to be significantly different statistically only in the domain of Switching. The difference was no longer significant after the removal of an outlier. A means graph showed largely similar cognitive profiles across most domains. Equivalence testing showed that, with the exception of that for Switching, all confidence intervals of the difference between group means overlapped with zero, indicating that the groups are very similar to each other in these domains.
The current analyses of retrospective neuropsychological data revealed that patients with chronic schizophrenia and FTD performed almost identically across most cognitive domains with significant differences in only one domain. This finding contributes to a growing body of literature showing that chronic schizophrenia and FTD may not be as dissimilar as previously suggested and that in some patients may be two sides of the same coin.
