Dr Dinka Corkalo Biruski discusses a capacity building program that aimed to empower key community figures to become leaders of change. The approach was based on community psychosocial work, conflict management and social action in post-conflict divided communities.
In this presentation Dr Dinka Corkalo Biruski is interviewed by Nooria Mehraby about the impact of collective trauma on re-construction of communities.
Dr Biruski discusses the effects of trauma on the process of re-construction of the communities; what defines a ‘divided community’ as well as highlighting the role of oppressive regimes in dividing communities.
She also suggests how to work towards re-conciliation, empowering the community leaders to become agents of change, facilitators of social cohesion and leaders of social actions for the benefit of the community.
