The accidental therapist

The accidental therapist

This talk came about from conversations that I have had recently and in the past about trying to understand the role of nurses providing therapy in interdisciplinary teams, and about the journey of becoming a therapist, pondering whether or not therapists are born or made.

The aim of the talk will be to describe the role and approach of expert nurses in the delivery of care to patients across the health continuum by providing a historical framework and use of clinical examples. It will then move into a discussion of whether therapists are born or made from a framework of how many health disciplines provide therapy to people who are experiencing complex traumas.
