This presentation describes the history of child psychotherapy. Starting from Freud, the talk presents the earliest pioneers in this area, with a special emphasis on the figure of Hermine Hug-Hellmuth. The influence of Anna Freud and Melanie Klein is described. These two child therapists are considered to have influenced the shape of child therapy more than other figures. Their similarities and differences, both in technique and theory are noted. The developments within child psychotherapy in more recent times concludes the presentation.
