In this presentation, key findings from a narrative inquiry research project, examining therapist’s experiences of poiesis, crafting practice, and self discovery within the therapeutic relationship in trauma therapy are presented. The craft of doing therapy and the value of practice ethics in trauma therapy is explored.
Narrative inquiry research methods and data analysis, using Polkinghorne’s (1995) approach to the emplotted narrative were employed and revealed several emplotted narratives. This presentation discusses three of the therapists’ plot lines:
1. Therapist as Craft Artist: The Making and Doing in Therapy; 2. Therapist as Wordsmith: Words Change People’s Lives; 3. It Came From Sideways: The Surprise and Wonder Plot of sacred, spiritual and, poetic moment.
