Changes in Sleep Symptoms after Intensive Psychotherapy of Neurotic and Personality Disorders in Day Hospital

Each of five sleep symptoms were present in about 60% of patients before the treatment. After psychotherapy there was significant (almost by half) reduction of all sleep symptoms. Majority of patients was free of them or had a significant symptom reduction. Patients that had GSI on healthy level after psychotherapy more often were free of sleep symptoms than patients that were still symptomatic according to GSI. Psychodynamic psychotherapy although not directly addresses patient’s sleep problems is an effective treatment of sleep symptoms accompanying neurotic and personality disorders.
