Finding Comfort in the Discomfort: helping Asylum Seekers sit with uncertainty

Assisting asylum seekers to manage their feelings of psychological distress is becoming increasingly difficult under current restrictive and shifting government policies that have resulted in enduring periods of uncertainty. Approaches of acceptance, non-attachment, cognitive defusion and the cultivation of present moment awareness will be discussed as interventions that may be useful to ameliorate suffering and aid in the waiting process for these individuals.
