Play Therapy with Refugee Children: a case study

Play Therapy with Refugee Children: a case study

This paper discusses the use of play therapy with an 8 year old boy whose father was tortured and subsequently separated from the family for 3 years, before they were reunited in Australia. Themes discussed will include the interaction of developmental factors and trauma, migration and the unfolding identity of a child of refugee background in relation to his family and community. Consideration will also be given to the question of where and how an intervention is focussed when trauma pervades a family.
