A cultural and spiritual reading counteracts the excesses of a secular, reductionistic credo of diagnosis and practice, and restores access to wisdom traditions withinĀ  medicine and health. Also, considerable empirical research indicates positive effects of spirituality/religion, and its importance to and their young people therapists and counsellors. Although there may be some signs that the mental health sciences are more willing today to recognise these aspects, the relationship between spirituality/religion and mental health is quite complex and needs more inquiry and research.
