The Impact of Worldview – Spirituality on a Therapeutic Process

Embedded in a worldview are beliefs about the spiritual dimension of existence.Three types of beliefs are distinguished, i.e. Descriptive or existential beliefs (beliefs about the existence of god/gods, free will and truth), evaluative beliefs (beliefs about a nation viewed as enemy or human nature as either good or bad) and proscriptive or prescriptive beliefs, also seen as values (how we live life).

A spiritual belief system incorporates all three types of beliefs. The role of spirituality in the healing process is explored. Case studies illustrate different facets of the interface between spirituality and healing. Once understood spiritual beliefs could be incorporated in a therapeutic process to spur mental health.
