These measures include legal guarantees against non-discrimination and violence, decriminalization of consensual sexual conduct and guaranteeing availability, introduction of comprehensive sexuality education and making sexual health information and services accessible and available to all in good quality. Such actions have had positive effects on health and specifically on sexual health, particularly for marginalized populations.
The presentation will highlight that in order to ensure accountability for the rights and health of their populations, states have an obligation to bring their laws, policies, systems and services into line with international, regional and national human rights’ standards. These rights-based actions are essential for effective systems of accountability, achieving positive sexual health outcomes as well as for the respect and protection of human rights.
