International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) has been working for the last 3 years to place the issue of sexual rights of young people and especially, the issue of sexual consent on the international agenda. In this presentation, I will share the results of the global study on how laws and policies influence young people’s right of freedom of sexual expression and access to services.
Conclusion: The research provides a new perspective on the interaction between legal and socio-cultural norms and codes relating to young people’s SRH rights, and how socio-cultural norms can compound legal barriers and a view into how they create barriers to accessing to SRH services. Momentarily, IPPF is scaling up its work through its member associations and (inter)national law firms to develop recommendations for legislative reform on two key issues: confidentiality and the age of consent. Finally, I will give an overview of recommendations for addressing changes in laws and policies.
