The psychotherapy of complex traumatic disorders requires an individualised approach that is flexible and responsible, involves clinical judgement, but still retains a coherent focus on underlying principles that guides the therapist’s choice. The Conversational Model developed by Hobson & Meares is an example of an integrated theory that is empirically supported and has been shown to be effective in complex trauma. In this presentation I will explain the important principles of what works and why; how this model is like many other models/theories yet unlike them too; I will discuss its relevance to trauma and describe its trauma-informed three-phase approach. A discussion will follow.
